In this episode, I go over the unique aspects of the job system mechanics and revisit the Altar Cave. Special thanks to silktail and russ1z for their help on the gamefaqs message boards. Also special thanks to instructrtrepe for writing the Damage Formula FAQ which really spelled out the information I describe to you here. Finally, special thanks to Fantasy Gamer for writing the Job Evaluation FAQ and listing out the stat gains for each class by level. Thanks for watching!

    None, they are barehanded.

You should post the cinematics from the DS version when they occur. I really would love how you do your LPs but I like the remakes better. I have tried to find other people who do the LPs from the remakes but you do a much better job so I stick out with yours even though you use the retro games. Cant wait til I get to FF7 then I have nothing to complain about. Are you going to do the PS2 FFs?

  • Posted by yk97thano On February 10, 2010

wait what monks can equip wepons in this game

  • Posted by missingno777 On February 10, 2010

So did I, that’s because they are the best jobs at the beginning. Fighter is generic melee damage, which is essential. Monk doesn’t need weapons and can get very powerful with a high skill, and obviously black and white magic is a must.

I never asked, someone said a Black Mage with Duel Knives, and I said “8-bit theater Black mage?” because sometimes the Black Mage pulls out two knives.

Look at your own damn comment. Why else would ask in the first place if you didn’t know.
    Sheesh.

  • Posted by JackHoundENT On February 10, 2010

    yeah what about it?

  • Posted by lordofnightmares On February 10, 2010

8-bit theater uses sprites taken from FF1, FF2 and FF3.

yeah i know the ds version of this game is alot tougher.

God I hated the 2nd Crystal’s boss. Took me 5 %$#&*% tries and 30 minutes of grinding just to put him down on the DS version.

karateka or master karate or whatever is the best hp development : only way for 9999 I think anyway

  • Posted by JackHoundENT On February 10, 2010

    8-bit theater wizard?

  • Posted by wavepsychic On February 10, 2010

Confusing! I have NEVER played this Final Fantasy before… Its so exciting.

  • Posted by dukluvrr On February 10, 2010

Hmm… Final Fantasy III has to be one of the biggest malleable games ever.

  • Posted by YeUndone On February 10, 2010

Ugh, it took until 79 to get to 9999. It’s strange; when your HP approaches 9999, you either only get a few HP (less than 10) from levelling, or you max it out. So it took me a bit longer than I thought. Still, 9999 HP at level 79 is pretty insane.

    Update:

Due to the miracle of 4X fast-forwarding, I’m now at lv.72 grinding Ninjas in Bahamut’s Cave. At no point in the game have I levelled any character with anything but the job with the best vitality at that point, and only one level was gained with Onion Knights (in the Altar Cave).

My HP at lv.72? It’s over nine THOUSAAAND!!!1! Seriously. I’ll almost certainly be at 9999 with all four characters by lv.76.

  • Posted by YeUndone On February 10, 2010

Okay, I guess it must be BASE vitality, since I just tested it, and Monks do better than even fully-equipped Onion Knights. So I guess I’ll keep switching to Monks just before levelling until I get a better job. All the fighting I had to do for potions/gil for the upgrade glitch paid off, as my Monk is at skill lv. 27, and I Defend-ground my OKs to 22, so I need zero Capacity to switch between them.

Still, my question stands… is there anything else that works like HP?

  • Posted by YeUndone On February 10, 2010

All right, I’m playing the Famicom version of this for the first time, though I played through the DS version ages ago. I’m kind of cheating (though not with hacks or anything) and used the item upgrade glitch to already get full sets of Onion gear for everyone (it’s much easier to get it legitimately in the DS version).

But let me get this straight… The only thing that is not strictly level/equipment-dependent is HP, right? So monks (or indeed FEOKs) are the way to go for beaucoup HP?

In the DS version, you could just select the guard command and gain a point towards your job level. So, you could get into a fight with goblins, guard ten times or so (varies with each job) and you’ll gain a job level in that battle.
