I have Windows 7 Professional installed on both my laptop and desktop. The graphics on my desktop look a lot different and nicer than the graphics on my laptop. I don’t understand why. They’re both the same 32-bit operating system.
Can someone explain?

there are a list of many things,
1. different graphics cards
2. different monitor resolutoins
3. or the settings for the graphics are not the same
They have different graphic cards in them. Laptops, because they have limited space inside their cases, have to keep power usage to a minimum so they do not kill the battery in five minutes, and have to run cooler, usually have lower quality video cards. They also often have a lower quality monitor (for the same reasons). So it is not unusual for a laptop to have a poorer picture than a desktop.
Your desktop has better hardware so it supports Aero, the feature in windows vista and 7 that allows for transparent windows and cool animations. But all of this eye candy comes at a price, meaning that computers with slower hardware, usually laptops, cant support Aero so instead they get a duller looking theme.
Hello Al,
The previous posters are right, there are a number of factors that effect graphics quality. Here is some information on how you can improve the display quality: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Ways-to-improve-display-quality.
